'The Furzehill', Mutley, Plymouth

We have been “hands on” landlords, successfully running The Furzehill as student accommodation for the past thirteen years.  Situated at the junction of Southern Terrace and Furzehill Road in Mutley, it was originally two Edwardian terraced houses which have been adapted, updated and upgraded through a continuous and on-going programme to provide for the needs of today’s students, while retaining the elegant proportions of that earlier era.


The Mutley area of Plymouth has always been popular with students, having numerous shops, banks, take-aways and pubs. It takes 3 minutes to walk from the house to Mutley Plain; 10 minutes to walk to the University Campus and in 15 minutes you can be right in the city centre, so the house is ideally placed to take advantage of all that Plymouth has to offer. There are a frequent bus services in Alexandra Road and North Hill.  Plymouth Railway Station is within easy walking distance.

Our tenants have consistently given positive feed-back on their time at The Furzehill, some of them staying with us for their entire University career. Being such a large house, there is always a great community atmosphere where firm friendships can be formed no matter how long or short a stay you enjoy.

The Furzehill offers excellent quality accommodation and has a current HMO license from Plymouth City Council. We are members of the South West Landlords Association and take a very personal interest in the running of the house and the safety of our tenants.  There is a Grade A fire alarm system, emergency lighting and fire equipment which is regularly maintained under contract. We have also added photo voltaic panels to the roof to offset our carbon footprint; apparently the first student property in Plymouth to do so.

There are 15 bedrooms spread over 3 floors. Of these there is 1 self-contained studio flat with king sized bed, en-suite shower room and kitchenette. There are 11 en-suite rooms with a double bed and 1 en-suite room with a single bed. Only 2 rooms, one with double bed and one with a single bed share a shower and toilet which are on the first floor adjacent to the bedrooms.

The communal areas are all on the lower ground floor.  There are 2 living rooms equipped with 42” TVs receiving SKY and comfortable seating; 2 modern, well equipped kitchens with cookers, dishwashers, microwaves, numerous fridges and freezers, kettles and toasters; a breakfast/study room and a cloakroom. The utility room has 3 washing machines, 3 tumble dryers and ample space to store bicycles and surf boards.

For anyone bringing a car to University, there is on-street parking outside the house with permits available from Plymouth City Council. Applying for a permit is easy and can be done online.  All you have to do is create an account, fill in the forms and pay £30 (find out more).

There is also off-street parking behind the house which is available to occasional visitors to the premises.

The rent includes a monthly cleaning service, all utility bills, a TV licence for the living rooms and wifi broadband.
